Vulture: Animal Poem #5

The trouble with writing poems for kids...

------------------------------------------------

First draft:

If you were a vulture
You would understand
That it's just within our nature
To feast upon the dead

For in the great circle of life
We play an important part
For there may not be any life
If not for the cleaning art

We take care of the living
By cleaning up when they die
So may you be forgiving
When thinking of our lives

---------------------

The second, kid-friendly, draft:

If you were a vulture
You would be allowed to stay up late
But if you were a vulture
You would also clean up your plate

For it's in the vulture's nature
To eat all the food that's there
So even if it tastes like garbage
A vulture does not care

So if you want to be a vulture
Make sure you eat all your food
Because before you think about it
Know that a vulture would!
